Ren al diseases informati on is population-based and ha s grea t geographic va riability . Due to the lack of
national renal data reg ist ry system, there is no informatio n on the prevalence rate, and clinical and laboratory features of
vari ou s glomerul on eph ritidi es (GNs) in Iran .
Methods: In a retrospecti ve cross sec tiona l study, we analyzed 46 2 adult renal biopsies in Hashemi Nejad ho sp ital,
Teh ran , Iran. We determ ined the prevalence rate and the frequency of di fferent clinical and laborato ry find ing s in
patients with d ifferent GNs. We als o compared our results wit h the reports from other co un tries.
Results: Th ere we re 267(57.8%) males and 195(4 2.2%) females. The mean ag e (± SD) was 33 .6 ± 15.7 (range, 13-75)
yea rs old. After exclus ion of 55 bio psies wi th path ologies othe r tha n GNs and in the rem aining 407 biopsies,
membranou s gl ornerulopath y (MG N) was the most common GN (23 .6%), followed by IgAN ( 13.5%),
membran oprol iferative GN ( 11.5%), systemic lupus nephritis ( 10.6%), foeal segme ntal glomerulos clerosis ( 10.3%), and
minimal change dise ase (9.8%). Th ese 6 GNs comprised the majority (79 .4%) ofal! GNs.
Conclusion: MGN is the most eo rn rnon form of GN, followed by IgAN, MPGN, SLE-GN , FSGS and MCD in adult
pati ent s in ou r s tudy. Th e multi-center stud ies with a larger sample s ize are needed for more comprehen sive data in
