There have been increasing interests in finding new and innovative solution for removal. ofcontaminants fromsoilsrecently. ln thepresentinvestigation, electrokinetic(EK)process
coupledwith activated carbon barrier to remove Nickel from kaolinite clayeysoil is investigated. Laboratory tests wereperformedbyapplyinga constantvoltageto nominalelectric fieldstrength of
1and 1.25V/cmwithinitialNi concentration (500mg/kg)for3 and 7 days. Results revealed that, the coupledtechnologyofEK with barrier when filledwith activatedcarbon could effectively prevent the reverseelectroosmoticflowwhichhas adverse effecton the Ni removalfromsoil. In addition, 20-50%ofNickelmi.gration towardsthe cathodeduring the tests wasachieved.
