UsedPETbottlesdisposal is an unsolved environmental problem, and there are many effortsfor findingan applicablesolutionfor it. Manyresearcheshave showedthat the degradation
rate of the polymersincrease with the smaller size of fibers. This work was carried out to convert usedPETbottles intonanofibersbymelt-electrospinning method.Uncolored, washedand chipped
PET bottles and the PET granule was used for experiments. The temperature of melted PET at extrudernozzleand spinningarea wereset in the range of245-255 °C and 200-235 °C respectively.
Themeltingpointofthe polymer wasdetermined byDSC. Thepotential difference wasfixed at 25kV and the distancebetween the nozzleand the collector were3-9 em. Themorphology and fineness of produced fibers investigated by SEM.Although the producing fibers were not completely in the rang ofnano-size fibers, but the results haveshowed that the nanofiberswith diameter between 6193nm canbeachievedbythe melt-electro spinningmethod.Comparingthe effects of differentflow
rates ofmeltingpolymer as wellas the distancebetween the nozzleto the collector haveshownmore proportion offiner fibers in flow rate lessthan 0.1mL/minand the distancein the range of3-5 em. It wasconcludedhoweverthe melt electrospinningproductionofnanofibers has somedifficulties but it can beconsidered as an applicable and environmental friendly way to recycling the used PET
bottlesso it can preventmore pollution of the environment.
