Transitivity Analysis in English and Arabic Short Narrative Texts:A Contrastive Study

This paper shows how Halliday‟s theory of transitivity can produce certain linguistic features by which the reader can understand the text and the author‟s opinions used behind it. It proves the effectiveness of this theory in analysing the processes of transitivity in two narrative short texts; English and Arabic. This paper highlights the role of these processes in portraying the features of the characters, using them, in such literary texts. This paper also indicates that the processes of transitivity are semantically the same in English and Arabic and they can be used in the same way, though with different frequency.
