Acute renal failure (ARF) is defined as the rapid cessation of renal excretory function withina time of hours or days, accompanied by a rise in serum urea and creatinine, and accumulation ofnitrogenous waste products in a patient whose renal function was previously normal. It isusually, but not always, accompanied by a fall in urine output. This study included 40 patientsof acute renal failure from both sexes. The biochemical investigations carried were the renalfunction tests including determination of urea, creatinine, uric acid, sodium and potassium inserum. The results of the present study shows that the levels of urea, creatinine, uric acid andpotassium were significantly higher in patients of acute renal failure in comparison with controlgroup, P value was less than 0.05, it also other parameter sodium was non-significantlydecreased in patients when compared with control individuals
