The Sign and the Novel: A Semiotic Study of Walid Al-Hodali’s Novel Curtains of Darkness

The paper employs a semiotic analysis of the sign in the novel Curtains of Darkness in order to determine the nature of the writer’s use of signs and their role in the formation of the narrative space, as well as the writer’s ability to invest semiotic signs in the production of a narrative that is capable of expressing his experiences and create semantic and aesthetic stimuli that increase the openness of the text on wide interpretive spaces. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach to study semiotic space of the narrative sign in the novel Curtains of Darkness by examining the concept of the sign, the parallel sign, the temporal sign, the spatial sign, and the physical sign.
