Learning a language means learning its vocabulary. W use vocabulary in communication either in spoken form or written form. In general no language acquisition is possible without understanding the vocabulary of the acquired language . Vocabulary is an important part of language skills. One way in which vocabulary learning can be developed is through the use of affixation. Affixes create new words usually by modifying or changing the meaning of a root word. The concern of this paper is using affixation to increase the vocabulary of students . The meaning of affixes is important in order to make it easy for students to understand the new words , so affixes with indication to meaning have been listed in tables. For example, the oct prefix comes from Latin octo which means eight . If you look at most English words beginning with oct, the meaning is never too far from eight. English vocabulary is countless and the majority of English vocabulary is those composed by adding affixes.
