Today s newspapers have undeniably become a key factor in mobilizing public opinion, as well as molding human thought in general. In their work, newspapers employ a normal language that is used by people but is higher than colloquialism. If the language used by foreign newspapers has not been subject to adequately thorough semantic study, the Arabic language is by far shorter of scrutiny. The present work tries to work on that gap, by studying the use of Arabic by modern newspapers as part of the Arabic language as a whole. It examines the design of a bilingual English-Arabic frequency dictionary of Arabic roots, including the most frequent Arabic words and their English equivalents, with a sample model of the dictionary from a modern Arabic newspaper corpus based on Zipf s law. It will be the first frequency dictionary of its kind in the world.
