Understanding the modern pricing in the light of the legitimate purposes

This is a paper that aims to shed light on The Purposes of Sharia which are based on the Islamic texts of the Quran and Sunnah, by applying it to Hadiths that focus on the topic of pricing. Protecting the private money of the public is a necessity for fulfilling the purpose of Sharia, therefore, the Hadith came with the prohibition of pricing merchandise for the benefit of the general public. However, after the change in circumstance and the rise in prices due to the monopolism of the merchants that brought harm upon the public pricing became a necessity. Though, the Hadiths that prohibited pricing are only valid for specific situations, one cannot deny the variation in interpreting Islamic texts between prohibiting and permitting is in the benefit of the general public. Therefore, an Islamic text should be studied and interpreted within the purpose of maintaining the interest of the general public, but within the boundaries of Islamic regulations that are determined by Islamic Scholars.
