The predictive ability of the sources of psychological stress in marital compatibility among a sample of married teachers

The current study aimed to reveal the predictive ability of the sources of psychological stress in marital adjustment among a sample of married teachers in Ajloun Governorate. an‎d to determine the differences in the level of resources for psychological stress and marital adjustment among teachers that are attributed to the variables of gender and age. The study sample consisted of 252 male and female teachers (146 males, 106 females), who were married teachers in Ajloun Governorate, and they were selected by the available method. To achieve the objectives of the study, two scales were developed: the psychological stress sources scale, and the marital compatibility scale. The validity and reliability of the two scales were verified, and then they were applied to the study sample. The results showed that the level of sources of psychological stress for married teachers was medium, and the level of marital adjustment was low, and the results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in the level of sources of psychological stress and marital adjustment due to the variables of sex and age. The results also indicated the existence of a statistically significant correlation between the sources of psychological stress and marital adjustment among teachers. With regard to the sources of psychological stress that predict marital harmony in both sexes, it was found that the predictive sources are: family stress, personal stress, and social pressure, while work stress did not predict marital adjustment among teachers.
