Traditional industries and social empowerment: a socio-historical study in northern Jordan

The study dealt with the subject of traditional industries in northern Jordan in the historical and contemporary contexts and their importance in social empowerment. The study included the social dimensions of traditional industries and crafts in terms of their concept, characteristics, and skill and technical aspects. A historical review of traditional industries in Jordan was also presented. The study used several methodological methods to obtain its data. A number of elderly people were interviewed in open interviews to obtain data related to their memories of who was practicing the craft? How does he practice it? What are the materials used? How is the marketing process? In light of the expansion of the geographical area of ​​the study community, it was necessary to search for these workers in separate places, and the researcher only had a random psoriatic sample, to interview the respondents either by the researcher directly or by the research team that was trained, and after a period of field research, more than Year 747 workers in traditional industries from 69 localities were interviewed. The study found the importance of traditional industries in social empowerment at the present time, and that it represents today an important symbolic expression of the society’s distinction in this craft in addition to its economic and social importance. The study concluded with a number of recommendations.
