Demographic, Social and Economic Characteristics of the Omani Population in Duqm: A Field Study (2015-2017)

This study aimed to identify the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the Omani population in the Wilayat of Duqm, by conducting a field study based on a comprehensive survey of all families residing in this wilayat, numbering (737) families distributed over 23 villages during the period (2015-2017). The study used several appropriate statistical methods, such as frequency and relative distributions, using the statistical program known as (SPSS) to analyze the data. The study concluded that there is a clear decrease in the levels of monthly income for the families of Duqm region, and the results also highlighted that most of the residents of the state are distinguished by their village cultural assets, and their educational levels are remarkably low. The results also confirmed the low level of health services provided to the population, especially with regard to health and related indicators in: the spread of diseases, infant mortality, complications of pregnancy, childbearing and abortion. The study concluded that it is necessary to pay attention to the possible role of social and cultural changes in the region due to its sensitivity, especially in light of the intense presence of expatriate workers. It also concluded the need to prepare the community in the Wilayat of Duqm to deal with potential changes in various fields, especially those that could affect traditional buildings; This is in order to avoid the emergence of forms of changes that are inconsistent with the nature, values ​​and standards of society.
