The current study aims to assess the effect of some risk factors including age, sex and socio-economic status on conjunctivitis. The study was made on 50 patients with conjunctivitis clinically diagnosed as 27 (54%) acute cases and 23(46%) chronic cases. Study results revealed that those age groups over 30 year and 1-5 year were infected more commonly than other age oups (20 and 18% respectively). Those with low socio-economic status and educational level were more commonly affected by acute (51.8%) and chronic (78.2%) infection in contrast to those with high socio-economic and educational level who recorded the lowest percentage of acute (18.5%) and chronic (4.3%) infection. Regarding sex distribution of the infection, the results revealed that acute infection was more predominant in males (55.5%) which may be due to exposure to infection in their work while females were found to be more prone to chronic infection (65.2%) which may be due to the use of certain cosmetic substance that increases the incidence and transmission of infection.
