Use Immunoglobulin as a marker in Iraqi Kala-azar patients

Object: The present study is to investigate the relative levels of specific immunoglobulin IgG,IgM,IgA and IgE in Iraqi Kala-azar patients. Methods: sera were collected from 50 Kala-azar patients ,the age range from 6 month to 8 years before and after treatment with pentostam sodium stiboglycorate and 21 healthy control , Leishmania donovani antigen (LAg) preparation to detect the level of immunoglobulin IgG,IgM,IgA and IgE in Iraqi Kalaazar patients sera during disease by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) Results: High titers of anti-LAg IgG and IgE antibodies were observed before treatment ,successfully treatment and decreased of IgG and IgE in all patients, low level of IgM showed in patients and very low level of IgA before treatment with no change after treatment . Conclusion :Immunoglobulin especially IgG and IgE may be used as a marker to identifY the successfully treatment in Kalaazar patients and this is the first study in Iraqi that use specific LAg to detect Immunoglublin in Kala-azar patients .
