Photostabilization of poly (vinyle chloride ) using natural products

The photostabilization of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC ) films by two flavonoids glycoside ((naringin and rhiofoline) as mixture and naringin pure materials from peel citrus (aurantumL). The films were cast from THF solvent with 40 micrometer. The films containing different concentration of additive ranged between 0.1 to 0.5% by weight . The photostabilization activity of these compounds were determined by monitoring carbonyl index (ICO) and hydroxyl index (IOH) indices with irradiation time. The change in viscosity average molecular weight was evaluated with different irradiation time (using THF solvent). The degree of deterioration (a), the average number of cuts per single polymer chain (S), and, the quantum yields of the chain scission (фcs) were also calculated for films (control) and that containing the additive compounds. It was observed that the natural product has agood stabilization for poly (vinyl chloride ) against UV-light According to the experimental results obtained several mechanisms were suggested depending on the structure of the additives.
