This study looks into aspects of interest to traditionalist Islamic scholars concerning the sayings (hadith) of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which are written by one narrator. These hadith have been the subject of focus by many traditionalists with regard to wording and significance, and the acceptance or and rejection thereof, according to the standards and criteria set by the chain of Islamic authorities. The focus of this study is to reveal the nature of interest of traditionalists in this area by uncovering their methods of study. This is accomplished through exposing the most important points of consensus or differences of opinions among traditionalists concerning such hadith. The study offers two models with which to view various scholarly reflections of these hadith, as based upon differences between the standards and criteria used by traditionalists in analyzing these hadith.
