From the earliest childhood the nursery rhymes have transmitted powerful
messages to the child who hears it. They reflect the ideologies of the culture in
which they are written. Children are the most impressible group of any society, in
whom the process of subjectification and forming ideology is much easier. Nursery
rhymes have a fundamental role in subjectification of children. This article is
investigating English nursery rhymes in the light of cultural studies. According to
the theories of cultural studies about ideology and subjectification, it is a personʹs
response to his societyʹs ideology that makes what he is. Social institutions create
subjects by producing ideologies. This process of subjectification and creating
subjects takes place through the ideological means. Nursery rhymes are studied in
this article as an ideological means used by the ideological social institutions in
subjectification of children. The ideological social institutions aim at making
children subjects through writing and reciting approved nursery rhymes for them.
