In this paper, common failures of building elevators, used in Iran, are studied statistically and failure prone subsystems are redesigned, manufactured and installed. For this purpose, the method of failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA)
is applied and the most important failures are highlighted first. Afterwards, the main causes of such failures are identified and corrected. In particular, two subsystems are modified: 1) the hinge of the elevator door is redesigned
manufatured and implemented, and 2) the control logic circuit, simulated using the Proteus software, was redesigned and applied. Studies show that, such measures are expected to reduce elveator failures by up to 79 percent.
