One-pot synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthenes-11-one using FeCl3/SiO2 NPs as catalyst

In this study, nano particle silica supported FeCl3 as solid acid has been employed for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthenes-11-one from 2-naphthol, aldehydes and dimedone. The relatively short reaction times, high yields of the products, the simple and clean work-up, and the mild reaction conditions make this method a useful addition to the present methodologies for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthenes-11-one.
