Investigating the Effect of Different Nickel Salts as Precursors on the Properties of NiO Thin Films

Nickel oxide (NiO) thin films were deposited using two different salts as precursor solutions on glass substrates by a chemical technique of spray pyrolysis. Effects of nickel nitrate hexahydrate and nickel chloride, were studied on the structural and optical properties of films. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern analysis showed the formation of monoclinic crystal structure for both precursor salts. UV-Vis spectroscopy results shows that the films prepared using nickel nitrate have higher optical transmittance and lower absorbance. Band gap of samples were calculated to be 1.96 eV and 1.92 eV for thin films prepared using nickel nitrate and nickel chloride precursors, respectively.
