Adaptive filters are important tools for numerous real-world scientific and industrial applications. This paper presents an educational software package which is called adaptive filter algorithms simulator (AFAS) for different adaptive filter algorithms using MATLAB graphical interface (GUI) in system identification scenario. The aim of this software is to allow students and researchers to analyze and compare the performance of different classes of adaptive filters. Based on the designed simulator, the classical adaptive filters, the variable step size (VSS), the selective partial update (SPU), the selective regressors (SR), the set-membership (SM) and the proportionate adaptive filter algorithms can be studied and compared by suitable curves. All the parameters in the simulated adaptive algorithms can be changed in the software and the effects of these parameters can be studied. Also, this simulator enables users to analyze the performance of adaptive filters through different input signals with the various eigenvalue spread. We demonstrate the usefulness of this software by simulating and comparing some adaptive filter algorithms.
