A new phase-modulator for similar modulation of
two hybrid TE and TM modes in silicon, considering the
separation facility, is proposed. A new non-planar surface is
used for silicon waveguide. This structure is designed to
achieve the same field components for two modes, using a
sloping plane. Considering this idea, it is possible to have: 9dB
extinction ratio; maximum optical loss of 4.82 dB cm ; 1.93 Vcm
modulator efficiency, for propagation of EH1 mode, and
8dB extinction ratio; maximum optical loss of 6.13 dB cm ;
2.02 V-cm modulator efficiency, for propagation of HE2 mode.
Also, for structures with two sloping planes, 9.84dB extinction
ratio; maximum optical loss of 4.51 dB cm ; 1.52 V.cm
modulator efficiency, for propagation of EH1 mode, and
9.45dB extinction ratio; maximum optical loss of 4.94 dB cm ;
1.54 V.cm modulator efficiency, for propagation of HE2 mode,
are found.
