Renewable energy resources can be incorporated in design of combined heat and power (CHP) systems, so that the advantages of zero environmental emissions as well as higher energy efficiencies are realized simultaneously. Because photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) panel generates thermal and electrical energy simultaneously, and, in comparison with PV cell and solar thermal system, has higher total efficiency than the sum of the efficiencies of PV cell and solar thermal system, PVT panel can be considered as an effective alternative to supplying thermal and electrical loads on individual basis. The objective of this study is to develop a heuristic optimization algorithm to solve optimal sizing of hybrid PV/T system. The simulation results show the ability of proposed heuristic optimization method. Also, water heater and diesel generator are needed to compensate the uncertainty of output power of PV/T panel.
