The renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic have the challenge of intermittency and unpredictability as a result of their dependency on weather and climate conditions. Therefore, a stand-alone PV system will only be able to meet the load demand only for the time periods when the solar radiation or adequate wind speed are available. Consequently, when using renewable energy resources, a backup energy source and or storage system is usually needed. Recently, demand response programs play the major role to reduce initial and operation costs. The objective of this study is to develop a heuristic optimization algorithm to show the effects of demand response programs on optimal sizing of hybrid PV system. The simulation results show that using demand response programs, the size of hybrid PV system is decreased and total cost is reduced by $365.
