This article aims to analyze two Persian translations of Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis (1915) as a significant modern novella. Ali asghar Haddad has translated it from German into Persian (1386) and Sadegh Hedayat translated Kafka from French to Persian (1329). Comparative model of translation studies will be employed to determine the conformity and proximity of translators to Kafkas tenets of thought. After describing Kafkas thought and comparing it with Hedayat s and Haddad s reflections, intentional modifications in their translations will be analyzed at the sentence level in the case of sentences that represent Kafquesque conceptulizations. Being in comparable social conditions, sharing ideological conceptualizations and suffering form similar frustrations and ailination, Hedayat manifests close affinities with Kafka. Therefore, he can identify with the main character of story as the author s mouthpeice and empathize with Gregor Samsa. Haddad has translated most of Kafkas works, and his fidelity to him has bound him to the original text. The results show that Sadegh Hedayat introduces some alterations in his translation that actually benefit the book and turn it into a bestseller. The similarities the author s and the translator s ideological conceptualizations and philosophies, then, excert a significant influence on the quality of translation
