Prioritising either source language or target language charachterises the history of translation. Although in translation studies there have been variations in strategies proposed for translating, each emphasising different aspects of transfer, the core of the debate remained the same, whether to favour the target or the source. One of the recent theories which approaches translation from a sociocultural aspect is Venuti’s (in)visibility of the translator and his proposition ofForeignisation and Domestication as translation strategies. The Strategieswhich as Venuti (in Munday, 2001:146) puts “possess a contingent variability, such that they can only be defined in the specific cultural situation in which translation is made and works its effects”.Scrutinising Quranic revelations, this study aims at drawing inferences about whether Foreignisation or Domestication is the preferred method of translating in the Islamic Culture.
