Monstera deliciosa is a native plant of the tropical rainforests of southern America countries. It is a
species of flowering plant from Araceae family. In this research, Composition of the oil, extracted by
n-hexane and antioxidant activity of aerial parts of Monstera deliciosa from Zanjan, Iran, were
evaluated for the first time. GC-MS analysis of the oil revealed 17 compounds with palmitic acid and
verbenone as the main components. Several new compounds, not reported in the previous literatures,
were identified in the oil of this plant. Antioxidant activity of the methanol extract was also evaluated
via DPPH bleaching assay. Results showed that the methanol extract has good but not very high radical
scavenging activity.
