Smirnovia iranica Sabeti is one of the plant species which is growing wild in central desert areas of Iran. The current
research was carried out on determination of volatile components and biological activity of fruits from Smirnovia
iranica Sabeti. Results from GC-Ms analysis revealed 37 identified components with benzene, 1-methoxy-4-(1-
propenyl) (13.30%), β-Ionone (9.91%) and nonadecane (9.10%) as the major components. Evaluation of
antimicrobial activity via disc diffusion assay showed that Salmonella paratyphi-A serotypeis and Staphylococcus
epidermidis sensitive to the methanol extract of fruits of S. iranica. Measuring antioxidant activity via DPPH free
radical scavenging activity assay exhibited very high activity (IC50=0.32 μg/ml) which was higher than that of BHT
standard antioxidant.
