A class of prime submodules

In this note we study an interesting class of prime submodules of module which is here called weakly maximal submodules. Some algebraic and homological properties of these submodules are indicated, in particular we prove that an finitely generated module over a Noetherian ring is Artinian if and only if every weakly maximal submodule is a prime submodule
