از ادوار مهم تاريخي شهر شوشتر، دوره قاجار مي باشد، لذا شناخت و بررسي شيوه‌هاي ساخت و معماري خانه‌هاي اين دوره خالي از لطف نيست. دراين تحقيق سعي شده تا سنت، تجدد در فضاي ورودي خانه مورد بررسي قرار گيرد. از آنجا كه شهر كهن شوشتر در طول تاريخ خود رويدادهاي بسياري را پشت سر نهاده، در معماري آن تغيير و دگرگوني‌هاي فراواني به جشم مي‌خورد؛ بررسي وضعيت تاريخي و دگرگوني‌هاي بافت شهري، سنت ظهور تجدد و چگونگي تأثير تمامي اينها بر ساختار معماري اين شهر، بخش عمده اين تحقيق را به خود اختصاص داده است. در روند اين پژوهش در دوره قاجار همگام با تلفيق سنت و تجدد به همراه خصوصيات كالبدي و سير تحولي فضاهاي ورودي مورد مطالعه قرار مي‌گيرد و تحولات رخ داده در اين بخش، ملموس تر مي باشند. همچنين با استفاده از مطالعات كتابخانه‌اي و ميداني انجام شده شايد بتوان شاخصه‌هاي بارزي را براي انواع فضاهاي ورودي تعيين نمود و سبك غالب ورودي ها را ارزيابي كرد. به همين ترتيب تحقيق به اين نتيجه خواهد رسيد كه خانه‌هاي شوشتر در دوره قاجار، سبك‌هاي گوناگوني در فضاسازي ورودي داشته كه هريك، جلوه هايي از سنت، تجدد يا تلفيقي از آنها را به نمايش گذاشته است.
