موضوع توسعه پايدار چند دهه اي است كه در علوم و حرفه هاي مختلف مطرح شده و ريشه آن در بحران هاي زيست محيطي و مصرف بي رويه انرژي هاي فسيلي در جهان مي باشد. يكي از مهمترين اهداف توسعه پايدار حفظ طبيعت و اصلاح نگاه به آن است و تجلي توسعه پايدار در حوزه محيط ساخته شده معماري پايدار ناميده مي شود.بحران انرژي و مفهوم پايداري تاثير بسياري بر حوزه معماري كه يكي ازعوامل موثر در مصرف بالاي انرژي بود گذاشت به طوري كه حفظ منابع انرژي، جلوگيري از آلوده كردن زمين و محيط زيست، كاهش ميزان انرژي هاي فسيلي و همزيستي با شرايط طبيعي و اقليمي به يكي از اساسي ترين تدابير در طراحي معماري تبديل شدو معماران را ملزم به رعايت اصول خاص در زمينه طراحي و ساخت كرد. در اين مقاله رويكرد معماري پايدار نسبت به مسائل محيطي كه يكي از سه حوزه مهم توسعه پايدار است مورد توجه است.توسعه پايدار با مسئله بحران آلودگي هاي زيست محيطي و تهديد بقاي انرژي همراه است.با اينكه نتايج بحران هاي امروزي به خوبي شناسايي شده اند ولي بسياري از راه حل هاي ارائه شده نسبت به مشكلات محيطي در معماري پايدار به نظر ناقص مي آيند.ابهام و نواقص هاي تئوريكي كه در مفهوم معماري پايدار وجود دارند مي توانند مانع مهمي در جهت حفظ محيط زيست باشند.هدف اين مقاله جستجوي نظريه هاي زيست محيطي توسعه پايدار و معماري پايدار در جهت تكميل نواقصات مي باشد كه در نهايت با هدف معماري پايدار به اصلاح رابطه انسان و طبيعت و معماري مي پردازد. در نظر گرفتن نقش انسان و همچنين معماري به عنوان يك فرآيند كه منجر به پايداري مي گردد از نكات مهم در اصلاح رابطه انسان ، طبيعت و معماري مي باشد. روش مقاله مبتني بر اسناد و مطالعات كتابخانه اي مي باشد.
