انسان همواره در طول تاريخ سعي مينمايد به منظور ايجاد سرپناهي امن براي سكونت ، آن را با محيط پيرامون خود هماهنگ سازد تا بتواند شرايط مناسبي براي حياط خويش ايجاد كند و درحقيقت شرايط جغرافيايي اقليمي نيز در شكل گيري اين فضاي زيست دخالت مستقيمي دارد.هدف اصلي مقاله معرفي منطبق با اقليم مناطق گرم و خشك ايران و شهر يزد ونيز استفاده از معماري سنتي در راه رسيدن به معماري پايدار مي باشد.اين مقاله در پي آن است تا بتواند چگونگي طراحي فضاي معماري را در يك بستر فرهنگي بر اساس دو رويكرد خانه هاي سنتي مورد بررسي قرار دهد.در جهت ايجاد محيطي پايدار مناسب زندگي انسان،معماري كويري يزد به اصول و روشهايي دست يافته است كه نه تنها تخريب و ضايعه اي را بر محيط تحميل نمي كند،بلكه فراتر از آن به عنوان عامل كمال بخشيدن به ماده نيز ايفاي نقش مي نمايد.بررسي ويژگيهاي طراحي كالبدي و معماري مناطق گرم و خشك و مصالح و روشهاي اجرايي نشان مي دهد كه در طراحي معماري سنتي علاوه بر استفاده از پتانسيل هاي محيطي از آلودگي و تخريب محيط زيست نيز جلوگيري به عمل آورده و مصداق بارزي از معماري پايدار ميباشد.روش تحقيق دراين مقاله توصيفي وروش گردآوري اطلاعات كتابخانه اي ميباشد.
