The focus of this paper is on the effect of quenching and aging parameters on the surface residual stress of the Aluminum- lithium AA2198 alloy which was measured by XRD technique. The results show that surface residual stress can be decreased by controlled-quenching. In normal quenching, the as-quench residual stress ( -350 MPa) is more than 3 times higher than controlled-quenching (≈ -100 MPa). However, aging time does not affect surface residual stress significantly and just decreases 18% for both normal and controlled quenching after reaching peak hardness.
