A highly efficient and green synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidines under solvent-free conditions

In recent years, the interest in Dihydropyrimidines has increased rapidly because of the
structural resemblanceof DHPM with clinically important Hantzsch pyridines
[1,2].Pyrimidine derivatives comprise a diverseand interesting group of drugs which are
extremely important for their biological activities [3,4]. A mild, simple and efficient
procedure for the preparation of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidins is described using BSA as an
acidic and efficient catalyst under solvent-free conditions. Simple methodologies, easy workup
procedure, easy preparation of the catalyst, excellent yields and very short reaction times
are among the other advantages of this work. Further, the catalyst can be reused and recovered
for several times without significant decrease in its activity.
