Synthesis of 2-hydroxy-1-(p-tolyl)ethan-1-one and diethyl (2-oxo-2-(p-tolyl)ethyl) phosphate by reaction of arylglyoxal derivatives and trialkyl phosphites.

Recently we reportesd a three component reaction ofarylglyoxals, β-enaminones and triphenylphosphine to produce pyrroles [1]. The reactionbetween Pyrrole,arylglyoxal monohydrates and enaminoketones or enaminoesters in alcoholic media in the presence of FeBr3 as a catalyst to produce 2,5-bis(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole derivatives[2]. We also reported reaction ofarylglyoxalmonohydrates, malononitrile and trialkylphosphites to produce of polyfunctionalizedphosphonated furan derivatives [3]. In continuation of our previous works on the three-component reactions arylglyoxals[3] here we wish to report the result of our study on the reaction of arylglyoxals with trialkylphosphites. As shown in (figure 1) this reaction leads to products 3, 4. The structure of this productswere proved by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and IR spectral data and elemental analysis.
