Synthesis of Bis(indolyl)methane Derivatives Catalyzed by 4-Sulfophthalic acid in Green Media

In recent years, bis(indolyl)methanes(BIMs) have attracted considerable attention on account of their wide applications in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical sciences. Also, these heterocycles are important class of heterocyclic compounds in the pharmaceutical as well as synthetic chemistry. They are important antibiotics in the field of pharmaceuticals and also effective in the prevention of cancer [1-3]. In this simple research work, 4-sulfophthalic acidcatalyzed reaction of indole with different aryl aldehyde compounds in water yielded bis(indolyl)methane derivatives in high yield. The merits of this method are efficient, clean, easy work-up, and shorter reaction times.
