Magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) are among the most highly applied particles. The wide range of MNPs utilization are consisted of various fields such as catalysis, separation, and drug delivery [1]. In order to be used for biomedical purposes, magnetic nanoparticles mustbe pre-coated with substances that ensure their stability, biodegradability and non-toxicity in a physiological medium [2]. Nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HA) has been considered as an idealinorganic drug carrier due to its high surface area to volume ratio, high surface activity, good biocompatibility, and strong ability toabsorb a variety of chemical species [3].
In this study, amoxicillin (AMX)and streptomycin (STR) antibiotics were supported on a nancomposite consisted of cobalt ferrite nanomagnetic core coated with hydroxyapatite (HA). After obtaining and characterization of the CoFe2O4@HA@AMX and CoFe2O4@HA@STR nanocomposites, their bactericidal activity were studied against some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria using diffusion disc method. The step by step preparation of CoFe2O4@HA@drugnanocomposites is shown in the following figure
These antibacterial composites showed an improvement in antibacterial effect of the drugs andadditinall, they can be easily removed from solution by magnetic decantation after treatment to avoid contamination of the aquasystems..
