Oximes are highly crystalline materials and oximation isvery efficient method for
characterization and purification ofcarbonyl compounds. These compounds not only represent
auseful series of derivatives of carbonyl compounds but alsomay be used as intermediates for
the preparation of amides bythe Beckmann rearrangement, nitrones, hydroximinoylchlorides,
nitrile oxide and chiral α-sulfinyl oximes [1].The usual method for thepreparation of oximes
involves treatment of aldehydes orketones with hydroxylamine [2]. In addition, a largenumber
of other methods have been reported for performingof this transformation [3]. However, some
methods in thisarea are not very satisfactory due to drawbacks such as lowyields, inability for
the preparation of aromatic ketoximes, long reaction times, tedious work up and effluent
pollution.In this work, we have used the nanomagnetic core-shell Fe3O4@Ni as a
heterogeneous catalyst for thepreparation of oximes in water (Figure 1).
