On the Reaction of Benzothiazole with Alkyl Propiolates

The development of efficient synthesis of heterocyclic compounds is of interest in organic chemistry because most of the biologically active compounds contain a heterocyclic scaffold as a fundamental unit in their structure [1].The reaction between benzothiazole(1) and alkyl propiolates 2 in ETOH/H2O (4:1) solvent system, proceeded smoothly at room temperature to afford product 3 and4 in about 9:1 ratios. The effect of solvent on the product ratio will be presented and discussed. The structures of product3 and 4 were deduced by NMR and IR spectroscopy
