In this work, we measured the density of binary mixtures of ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroburate and polyethylene glycol with the average molecular weights of 200, 400 and 600 at whole composition range in ambient temperature. The group contribution method has been used to predict the density of these mixtures. The model was evaluated by a calculation of molar volume of –CH2CH2O– group using experimental values of molar volumes of polyethylene glycols. Density of each mixture has been calculated using molar volumes of ionic liquid and polyethylene glycol. Molar volumes of polyethylene glycol 400 and 600 were calculated using molar volumes of polyethylene glycol 200 as reference and –CH2CH2O– group. We showed that the proposed group contribution method allows the accurate prediction of densities for the studied mixtures at ambient temperature.
