MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT CHEMICAL EQUILIBRIUM AND SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR THEIR REDUCTION

Chemistry, physics, and biology seem to be subjects in school that are notorius for the development of misconceptions by students. They bring a lot of own experiences and observations of their every day life into the class: alternative explanations or “preconcepts.” Another kind of misconceptions is also discussed: “school made misconceptions.” Students at schools and universities may know formulae, chemical equations and solving problems about equilibriums, but are weak in understanding according the concept dynamic equilibrium. Also, one of the misconceptions discovered in studies is that students think that the concentrations of all species in the reaction mixture are equal at equilibrium. This study replicates, with additions, research done by some researchers and suggests method and experiments for reduction of the misconceptions.
