In this research, application of sawdust coated by magnesium oxide nanoparticles for uptake of methylene blue dye from aqueous solution has been investigated. In sorption study experiments, fixed amounts of sorbent were used for treatment of methylene blue dye solutions containing various initial concentrations. The effect of various experimental parameters such as pH, dye concentration, sorbent dosage, and contact time on the methylene blue dye sorption was studied. Among the different parameters affecting the sorption of methylene blue, it was found that pH of the solution has the most pronounced effect. Under optimum conditions, methylene blue removal by nanocomposite was about 95%. According to the kinetics study, it was found that the experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order kinetic model (k2= 0.004 g/mg. min). Investigation the thermodynamic parameters of the methylene blue removal by the nanocomposite show that sorption process was exothermic (ΔH 0)
