Perovskite-typeoxide La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 manganite with nanostructure was prepared by mild hydrothermal method for 48 h at 165˚C. The obtained nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible spectrometry.The results showed that the sample was crystalline with nanosizedand the crystallite size of nanoperovskites was found to be ~23 nm.The band gap energy of sample was estimated using UV-visible absorption spectra and it was about 1.83 eV. Photocatalytic activity of the sample was investigated for degradation of methyl orange under visible light. It was carried out using physical mixture of La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 nanoparticles under visible light irradiation. The residual concentration of methyl orange solution was monitored using UV-visible absorption spectrometry. The photodegradation efficiency for decolorizing methyl orange solution (6 ppm) by doped calcium lanthanum manganite (60 ppm) after 30 min illumination was about 73% with a reaction rate constant
of 0.0495 min−1.
