The extraction of Methylene blue dye from aqueous solutions has been investigated using NiFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles treated with sodium dodecyl sulfate. Prepared magnetic nanoparticles were characterized by SEM, TEM and XRD techniques. The morphologic results confirmed the formation of MNPs with face centered cubic (fcc) structure with the crystallite size 19 nm. The effect of various operation parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration of dye and contact time was also studied on the
adsorption of Methylene blue onto NiFe2O4–SDS MNPs. The adsorption kinetics and equilibrium data were in good agreement with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm respectively. The results from intraparticle diffusion and Boyd model indicating that the adsorption processes not only followed the intraparticle diffusion but the film diffusion also played an important role in the adsorption and the rate-determining step is the external mass transfer, respectively.
