The present study aimed at analyzing and criticizing the novel ‘Great Expectations’ written by Charles Dickens. In line with the objectives of the study, first, ingredients of literature were analyzed based on Guerin, et al.’s (2005) classification (i.e. character, setting, plot, structure, style, atmosphere, and theme). Then, the novel was criticized considering Guerin, et al.’s (2005) mythological approach and archetypal symbols and colors. Next, the novel was criticized regarding psychological approach and Freud’s (1962) psychic zones (i.e. id, ego, and superego). Finally, the writer’s work was reviewed in terms of ingredients of literature and mentioned approaches.
