In this study, the mechanical structure of two metal based composites which were formed by Ytterbium fiber laser are evaluated after the tensile test; two-layered stainless-steel SUS304L/Copper C11000 composite and three layered stainless-steel SUS430/copper C11000/stainless-steel composite. Laser beam irradiation causes a different cross-sectional reduction in both composites in the heat affected zone (HAZ) compared to other areas of tensile test specimens. In fact, the reduction of area in the HAZ is much less than other areas. The main reasons for this are the increase in thickness and compressive residual strain in this area. The laser beam irradiation is greatly reduced the cracks generated in the copper layer of two layered composite in the HAZ.
