Kafka s works are unlike anything that came before which influences many writers including J.D Salinger who was a tremendous fan of Kafka and was probably influenced by him in writing. The Catcher in the Rye (1951). The heroes of Kafka s stories are always caught in the plot in such a way that the story doesn t go forward, they are instead trapped and challenged by the difficulties of their worlds. All of the protagonists in Kafka s works are alienated, or strangers.
