The synthesis and characterization of a dye based on naphthalimide derivative and self-colored methyl methacrylate polymer (PMMA) have been described. For this purpose, acenaphthene used as first material and after four steps such as nitration, oxidation, imidation and allylation, 4-allylamino-N- 4-aminobenzenesulfonamide- 1,8-naphthalimide as a fluorescent dye was synthesized. After that, copolymerization reaction was done with prepared dye and methylmethacrylate monomer. So, the novel PMMA based on 4-allylamino-N- 4-aminobenzenesulfonamide- 1,8-naphthalimide with self-colored properties was synthesized. The obtained dye and copolymer were characterized by FTIR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, elemental analysis, DSC and GPC techniques.The molecular weight characteristics of the poly(MMA-co-dye) have been determined using GPC. The molecular weights (Mw and Mn) and the molecular weight distribution, Mw/Mn, confirm the formation of a high molecular weight polymer.
