Synthesis of Rhodamine B@Fe3O4 nanoparticles and their antibacterial effects on the enterobactor aerogenes

Today synthesis of modified nanoparticles with special bioactivity is of great importance. In this work we report the synthesis of the Rhodamine B modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles that have significant antibacterial effects on the Enterobactor aerogenes. Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical coprecipitation reaction of Fe3+ and Fe2+ in the alkaline NH3 solution and under inert atmosphere [1-3]. The average size of the synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles was 15 nm based on the X-Ray diffraction analysis. In the second stage, Rhodamine B was covalently immobilized on the surface of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles. FT-IR spectra of the synthesized Rhodamine B@Fe3O4 nanoparticles clearly showed the presence of the bands identifying the Rhodamine B structure. Then, the Enterobactor aerogenes bacteria was choosen to study the possible antibacterial activity of the prepared Rhodamine B@Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Comparing with blank samples and the results obtained by total population count and plate count procedure confirm the significant antibacterial activity of the prepared Rhodamine B@Fe3O4 nanoparticles.
