Glucose is a simple sugar which is a permanent and immediate primary source of energy to all of the cells in human body. The abnormal metabolism of blood sugar and defective insulin production causes diabetes disease. For three decades, glucose monitoring technology has been used in the management of diabetes1. Nanostructured materials have been extensively explored to develop biosensors with high sensitivity, fast response times, and stability for the determination of glucose2. Recently, nanostructures were used for colorimetric determination of glucose. In the present study, carbon/ iron oxide nanocomposite was used for colorimetric determination of glucose, which is an important indicator for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in clinical medicine. Carbon/ iron oxide nanocomposite catalytically oxidize 3, 3’, 5, 5’-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce a colour reaction. In this manner, the linear range for glucose determination was obtained as 0.3 to 300 µM and the detection limit was as low as 0.1 µM.
